Papuashvili: Separate Existence of Special Investigation Service Serves to Enhance Legal Standing of Our Citizens

“I would like to wish the Special Investigation Service luck and reaffirm that the Parliament fully supports the development of its institutional framework. It is crucial, in my opinion, that this service be successful. It’s critical to the success of our service that we get past any initial and potential future skepticism. Let our entire society be persuaded that the formation of such a separate, independent institution would only benefit the situation and, in the end, will serve to enhance the legal standing of our citizens,” Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili stated during his speech at the presentation of the activities and future plans of the Special Investigation Service.

Papuashvili drew attention to the importance of the Special investigative service. As he noted, the role of the service in the direction of improving the legal status of people is very big.

The Speaker focused on the importance of institutional strengthening of the service. As he noted, work in this direction is going on in the Parliament and there are ideas on how the institutional strengthening of both the special investigation and personal data protection services can be ensured.

“The EUAA also stipulates the formation of an independent investigation service, and it was this that ultimately caused the broad separation of this department. The Special Investigation Service’s operations should be strengthened, according to one of the 12 suggestions. Work is being done in this area by the parliament, and there are suggestions on how to institutionally reinforce both this service and the service for personal data protection. This reform’s success was demonstrated when the State Inspector Service was reorganized and divided into special investigation and data protection services. We recall hearing diverse viewpoints on this matter discussed, but when we read the Personal Protection Service’s report, it made clear how crucial it is for the service to operate in this way. We can observe that the service is focused in a particular area. This ultimately demonstrated to us that this reform was both essential and effective,” Papuashvili remarked.
